Chris Pumphrey - Music Missioner
Chris Pumphrey is a versatile composer, arranger, bandleader, and musician based in Baltimore. He earned his degree in music composition from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, where he studied with Stuart Saunders Smith. Chris is best known for his work with the Baltimore Afrobeat Society, transcribing and directing the music for this twenty-three piece band which plays the music of Nigerian afrobeat star Fela Kuti. He has also written music for theatre groups Trixie Little, The Mobtown Players, and Fablevision, and performs with several ensembles around the city, including his own sextet. Highly virtuosic on both the alto saxophone and piano, Chris is a regular performer in Baltimore's left field jazz/improv scene.
Church on the Square is so fortunate to have Chris on their team, writing, leading and dreaming our worship forward. Chris and Kristen provide a caring undertone, a droned comfort, that moves worship forward with ease, love and intention.
